at Franktown Animal Clinic
7658 Burning Tree Drive, Franktown CO
Bring your dog to our Rattlesnake Clinic, conducted by nationally recognized, Fred Pressen of High-On Kennels.
Our training clinics are conducted in a safe, humane and controlled environment ensuring the safety of your dog, people and the rattlesnakes. We have found the best way to teach a dog to avoid rattlesnakes is to use live rattlesnake specimens that have been neutralized so that they cannot bite. The snakes are placed out in a field setting and the dogs are fitted with an electronic training collar, then dog is led through the field (by the trainer) and allowed to encounter the rattlesnakes at which point the dog is stimulated using the electronic collar. The training process is repeated to assure that your dog will understand the sight, smell and sound of a rattlesnake. (Rattlesnakes have a distinctive odor that dogs can discern from other snakes.) Fred recommends repeating the training three years in a row to enforce the correct behavior.
Appointments will be made hourly. Training will last approximately 15 minutes, but plan on being present for an hour. Rain delays may occur but training will go on when weather permits - we do not cancel.
Please note: Puppies under 6 months of age are too young for this training.
